At Yiwu International Trade Market, located in Yiwu county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, business owners are leveraging artificial intelligence not only to break language barriers but also to develop innovative commodities sold worldwide.
Cameroonian buyer Louis Marand Ahifou came to Yiwu International Trade Market on Aug 5, communicating with a luggage store owner using "AI Translator". It is a tool on the Chinagoods platform that supports 116 languages and handles tasks including simultaneous interpretation and translations of pictures and documents.
Over half of merchants in the market — more than 30,000 — now utilize AI tools for design, product introduction, and more.
"Our AI glasses are designed by tools on the Chinagoods platform," said Wang Junwen, owner of Yangyang Digital Store. AI tools have slashed product development time by nearly half while generating multilingual product descriptions and market trend analysis.
Since launching an AI earphone in May, Wang's shop now stocks shelves with hundreds of innovative products like AI glasses with photo and video functions and translator-equipped earphones.
"Foreign buyers show great interest in glasses and earphones. Their retail sales can reach 300 to 500 units daily," Wang said.
Jihe Technology, another store that sells intelligent watches, glasses, and earphones, began operations just about a month ago. Owner Wang Jiamin said, "We shifted from traditional watches to smart watches that use ChatGPT functions for international markets and DeepSeek functions for domestic markets."
"Previously, our export markets were mainly in Europe and North America, but now we're seeing Asia, Africa, and South America increasingly accept our products." Wang said that intelligent wearables will dominate consumer markets within years — a shift already reflected in Yiwu's bustling stalls.
