Jinhua's Wuju Opera dazzles intl audience

Huangpu Cultural Center in Shanghai came alive on May 29 and 30 with a staging of Three Fights Against the White Bone Demon by Zhejiang Wuju Opera Research Institute from Jinhua, Zhejiang province.

As part of the first showcase of Outstanding Repertoires by China Theatre Plum Blossom Award Winner Artists, the production captivated full houses with its unique charm and innovative expression, building a cultural bridge for audiences worldwide.

Before the performances, Lou Sheng, a Plum Blossom Award winner, led an engaging session introducing the vocal styles and techniques of Wuju Opera. Enthusiastic audiences, including international fans, eagerly participated, trying their hands at this traditional art.

During the performance, Yang Xiayun, another Plum Blossom Award winner, dazzled as the White Bone Demon with her seamless changes of facial masks and costumes, while Zhou Hongwei's portrayal of the Monkey King was equally captivating, marked by impressive displays of acrobatics and martial arts.

Aliaksandr Shauchenka, Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Shanghai, praised the performance and expressed excitement about the troupe's upcoming tour of Belarus.

Having toured over 100 times globally, the production continues to affirm its artistic value. Wang Xiaoping, director of Zhejiang Wuju Opera Research Institute, said they aim to further innovate Wuju Opera and share its beauty and heritage with the world.
