Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard's Daishan base in East China's Zhejiang province is seeing a surge in production activity, with nine vessels under construction and orders scheduled through 2029.

Work is progressing on 19,000-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships for MSC Group, which use LNG and conventional fuel to cut carbon emissions by about 20 percent and nitrogen oxides by 85 percent.

Three of these vessels have already started construction, with the first, which began construction in November last year, expected to be delivered in April next year.

The company, which jointly developed new dual-fuel ship designs with the CIMC Offshore Engineering Research Institute and addressed key technical issues, including fuel tank integration and energy management, said its full order book reflects progress in technology, capacity, and management.

To support production, a team of 28 specialists worked to improve welding processes for high-strength steel used in large vessels, developing standardized methods after months of testing.

Local authorities have also provided support in labor supply, logistics, and safety coordination, helping ensure stable production as the company expands capacity.
