The Blue Book of the Development of Ningbo Zhoushan International Shipping Centre (2025) was released on May 27 at the opening ceremony of the 10th Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, outlining key developments in Zhoushan's port and shipping sector.
The report selected 20 major events from 2025, including the start of construction on phase one of the Fodu Container Terminal in the Liuheng port area and the establishment of a green ship repair certification alliance in Zhoushan. It also noted major milestones such as Ningbo-Zhoushan Port's container throughput exceeding 40 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
In 2025, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port handled 1.43 billion metric tons of cargo, maintaining its position as the world’s busiest port for the 17th consecutive year. Container throughput reached 43.87 million TEUs, up 11.6 percent year-on-year, ranking third globally. The port operated 309 container shipping routes, including 257 international routes and 132 Belt and Road routes, placing it second worldwide in connectivity.
Zhoushan's automated port projects, including the Dapukou Container Terminal and the Shulanghu Ore Terminal, were highlighted as smart port benchmarks, featuring remote-controlled operations and AI-based logistics systems.
The blue book also reported robust growth in ship repair and maritime services, with Zhoushan's shipbuilding and repair output value exceeding 50 billion yuan ($7.39 billion), positioning the city as a major global ship repair base.
