Shaoxing University has officially unveiled its new emblem, the "Ming Shi Seal", designed by renowned Shaoxing-born designer Gu Yongjiang. Gu is celebrated for his iconic works, including the logos for the Chinese Lunar Exploration Program and the Chinese Planetary Exploration Program.

The emblem's design draws inspiration from the oracle bone script character “興” (Xing, meaning prosperity), subtly incorporating the characters “名士” (Ming Shi, meaning “notable scholars”) within its structure. The overall shape resembles four hands lifting together.

According to Gu, the character “興” symbolizes collective effort, reflecting the torch of education being passed down through generations. It conveys a multifaceted significance: promoting education, prospering the city, cultivating talent, and vitalizing the nation.

The upper section of the emblem, shaped like an open book, represents knowledge, while the lower lines, resembling farming tools, symbolize hard work and perseverance. This duality highlights the traditional Shaoxing ethos of blending academics with practical endeavors, emphasizing the unity of knowledge and action.

The emblem has received high praise from many experts. Xu Zhilin, president of the Yue Culture Research Association, described it as being deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Shaoxing, integrating traditional charm with modern aesthetics. This fusion, he noted, embodies an alignment of the city's historical legacy with the university's ethos.

Anchored in the rich cultural heritage of Shaoxing, the university remains committed to nurturing virtue and talent, playing a pivotal role in supplying both intellectual and human capital for the city's future development.
