Shaoxing welcomes Spring Festival with culture, tourism, and sports
This Chinese New Year, Shaoxing has launched a series of themed activities under the banner "Celebrating Chinese New Year through Culture, Tourism, and Sports", integrating intangible cultural heritage experiences, Song Dynasty (960-1279) cultural immersion, interactive programs, integrated tourism initiatives, and public fitness activities.
In the ancient city core, Shen's Garden has transformed into an immersive Song Dynasty theater, where Yue Opera performances synchronized with light shows bring the dynasty's thousand-year-old charm vividly to life. Lu Xun's Hometown now offers interactive experiences with cultural tourism vouchers, while the Former Residence of Wang Xizhi invites visitors to explore the fusion of tradition and modern trends through handwritten fu characters (representing good luck), intangible cultural heritage rubbings, and VR experiences.
Cultural venues are equally vibrant. The new wing of Shaoxing Museum has launched six major activities under the theme "Celebrating Chinese New Year at the Museum". Shaoxing Library is focusing on intangible cultural heritage skills by offering hands-on experiences in block printing and paper-cutting, allowing residents to appreciate the beauty of traditional craftsmanship.
Various districts showcase distinctive offerings. Shangyu district has introduced themed cruise ships along the Cao'e River. Keqiao district offers Wupeng boat (black-awning boat) rides, dragon and fish parades, and Chinese New Year markets. Zhuji's light shows illuminate the night-time economy, while Shengzhou awakens visitors' taste buds with its local delicacies.
While tourism thrives, sports and fitness have emerged as a new trend during Spring Festival in Shaoxing. Public venues, including the Olympic Sports Center and Baseball and Softball Sports Center, remain open with accessible services, attracting crowds for family fitness activities and outdoor jogging.
