The Jiulong Mountain Birdwatching Site – in Suichang county in Lishui city – was recently selected in one of the first batch of provincial-level birdwatching sites in East China's Zhejiang province, according to the Zhejiang Provincial Forestry Bureau.
It's located in the Zhejiang Jiulong Mountain National Nature Reserve, which is a mountain forest birdwatching site with a rich variety of avian species.
According to the bureau, 181 species of birds have been monitored and recorded in the reserve, including three national first-class key protected wild species – the yellow-bellied tragopan, the white-necked long-tailed pheasant and the greater spotted eagle – as well as 46 national second-class key protected birds.
The reserve also has a 3-kilometer-long birdwatching science popularization corridor, a birdwatching hide and 20 sets of birdwatching equipment for visitors.
In recent years, the Jiulongshan Reserve has held two online Bird-loving Week public bird science popularization lectures and carried out nine lectures into schools – and held five onsite research and summer camp birdwatching activities – attracting a total audience of nearly 10,000 people.
Moving forwards, plans are for the reserve to use its rich local bird resources to carry out more science popularization research and studies, parent-child summer camps, ecological tourism and other activities – to add fresh momentum to the area's rural revitalization.
