Taizhou athletes claim multiple medals at national para games

The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games concluded in Shenzhen on Dec 15, with 29 athletes from Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, winning a total of 23 golds, seven silvers, and 10 bronzes across all events.

Rowing emerged as one of Taizhou's strongest events. Four athletes collected six gold medals, accounting for a significant share of the Zhejiang delegation's total in this category. Shao Shasha won the city's first gold of the games in the women's PR1 single sculls 1,500 meters with a time of 7 min 47.25 sec.

Strong performances were also recorded in deaf basketball and table tennis, cycling, taekwondo, powerlifting, athletics and snowboarding. Five young Taizhou athletes took home 16 golds, three silvers, and one bronze in the powerlifting events.

Taizhou athletes demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the games, reflecting the enduring spirit of sportsmanship among athletes with disabilities.
