Cheering ballads have been popular in Changshan county since ancient times. There is a custom in Qiuchuan town where guests tease the bride and the bridegroom on wedding night by singing cheering songs. The bridegroom will take the bride to the chamber while others sing the ballads. The custom can be traced back for more than 500 years.
