Ningbo is set to host its 2026 Marathon on March 15, bringing together runners from around the world for a celebration of sport and city culture.

The 2026 Ningbo Marathon, an A1-certified event by the Chinese Athletics Association, will feature a full marathon for 12,000 runners and a half marathon for 15,000 participants, with total registrations exceeding 150,000 — a record high. Athletes from 46 countries and regions will take part, with nearly three-quarters coming from outside Ningbo. For the first time, organizers have introduced three direct-entry channels based on age, previous results, and social connections, offering more opportunities for runners from all backgrounds.

The course traces the scenic route linking Sanjiangkou to Dongqian Lake, weaving through nine historic sites — including Drum Tower, Moon Lake, and Tianyi Pavilion — as well as modern landmarks such as Tianyi Square. The route highlights Ningbo's unique blend of history and modernity while offering a lively race atmosphere, with over 50 cheering zones and new music stations along the way.

The medals feature patterns from the ancient Hemudu culture and wave motifs evoking the city's waterways. The marathon apparel continues the city's signature colors: yellow for half marathoners, symbolizing energy and vitality, and purple for full marathoners, inspired by Ningbo's nighttime skyline. Wave patterns on the gear reflect the city's maritime heritage and the dynamic flow of the race.

Beyond the competition, runners can enjoy citywide cultural and tourism experiences, including discounted attraction tickets and access to the 2026 Ningbo Sports and Leisure Expo.
