The 2025 Global Sustainable Transport Best Practices collection was launched at the United Nations headquarters on July 16, with the Four Good Rural Roads project from Keqiao district in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, selected as China’s only county-level representative.

Led by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Transportation, the project demonstrates how rural infrastructure can advance inclusive, green, and efficient development.

By the end of 2023, Keqiao had built a rural highway network spanning 1,296 kilometers, including 301 km rated class-2 or above. Many of these upgraded roads have been developed as scenic routes connecting 248 cultural and tourism sites.

Officials said the network now provides 100 percent coverage at the district, town, and village levels, improving travel safety and service efficiency. Supporting facilities such as parking lots, sidewalks, and charging stations have been enhanced, while 16 "shared transport stations" serve about 28,000 passengers. Over the past decade, 42 urban-rural bus lines have been added, further improving connectivity.

Through these measures, Keqiao has turned transportation into a driver of rural vitalization, linking infrastructure improvements to economic growth and community well-being.
